The Bay City Main Street program is hosting the Fourth Annual “Wild Game and Wine CAMOFEST” on JANUARY 26, 2019 in Historic Downtown Bay City. Cooking “guides” will provide locally caught samples of wild game, fish and fowl and food inspired by Texas wines. Festival goers will enjoy samples of wine from local wineries, live entertainment, shopping with festival specialty vendors, Texas beer and wine and activities for the kids. The “welcome mat” will be out at as the many retail merchants of Downtown Bay City open their doors with discounts and specials. CAMOFEST highlights our one of a kind Downtown Bay City and Matagorda County

This women’s-only offshore fishing tournament was established in 1986 by some local ladies who loved the water as much as the guys. They put together a contest that put the girls in charge of catching some of the most fun and popular fish in our beautiful gulf. The 1st annual tournament was held at Allen’s Landing Bait Camp in Matagorda; it was a huge success with over 30 boat entries. Matagorda spent the next several years making a tradition of gathering together on all three decks to see the ladies pull up and show off those awesome kingfish, ling, dolphin, and other monsters at the scale!
After the devastating loss of Allen’s Landing by Hurricane Claudette in 2003, the tournament moved to the Matagorda Harbor that sits along the iconic Intracoastal Waterway. Today’s Committee is working hard to keep the legend of the Matagorda Mermaid at its best! We not only want to keep our community proud of this event, but we want to keep helping it out by fundraising for the local programs. We’ve been annual supporters of the Latchkey After-school Program and the Matagorda Volunteer Fire Department. We’ve only been able to do it through those that support us by fishing, donating, and participating in our famous Calcutta. We still all come together to laugh and cheer and enjoy this special weekend. Every year we hope to up the ante on that Calcutta prize money… oddly enough on our 30th anniversary tournament, we ended up fishing on July 30th and raised exactly $30,000 in the Calcutta!!
The town of Matagorda is so proud to host the longest running woman’s offshore fishing tournament on the Texas Gulf Coast and we plan to keep the tradition going for generations to come! Come fish with us~~
